How to create goals for 2023 that we can actually achieve

How to create goals for 2023 that we can actually achieve

How can we set affordable plans so that we can end next year with a list full of accomplishments?

The first step to avoid frustration in the first months of the year is to set goals that are possible to achieve. What a beautiful opportunity it is to be able to see life in cycles, that begin and end, that fills us with new hopes, leads us to dream of a new beginning that can bring us what we have always longed for. In addition, the paint still seems to be fresh from what we have been through the last two years, which have not been easy at all.

With the possibility of a new path ahead, this is the ideal time to think about what your goals will be for the coming year. My first advice is to remove the doubt. And what does that mean for our subconscious? For when there is even one element of doubt, the mind is fixed on the doubt. And when I'm writing my list of goals, how could I eliminate the doubt? Well, imagine that you place a rope many meters above the ground, and you have to walk along it to get to the other side of the stream. Your mind will alert you because you will have doubts that you are capable of performing such a feat. However, if you place that same rope at a height that you feel you can cross safely, you eliminate any shadow of doubt and thus you will begin to put OK on your wish list and, above all, you will not get frustrated.

In this way, attainable goals are those that we achieve by drawing up a plan and establishing a step-by-step to achieve them.

We are going to put an example:

a) Next year I will participate in a 10 km race.

b) I am going to start taking running technique classes and thus learn to run. In addition, I want to have a training plan that allows me to dose the effort, I am going to reorder my diet and I will organize myself to form the habit of sleeping earlier. I want to do 5 km in March and in July participate in the first 7 km race.

Which goal is more likely to be achieved, a) or b)?

Goal b) is much more likely to be achieved, do you know why?

It is divided into small goals and there is already some planning. July of next year is an objective date and there is a reasonable deadline to achieve it, considering the necessary adaptation to start or resume a sporting activity. To reach the goal it is necessary to evaluate the results every month and if necessary, some modifications can be made, such as taking more breaks or increasing the training load depending on the response of the body.

HOW TO CREATE GOALS FOR 2023

SMART METHOD

There is a methodology that can help you in the elaboration of your goals for 2023. It is the SMART Method (from English “intelligent”). According to SMART, for a goal to have the best chance of being achieved, it must be:

S (specific): specific

M (measurable): measurable

A (achievable): achievable

R (relevant): relevant

T (time based): have defined deadlines

Items A and R may be the main responsible for most of our frustrations, and that is because many times we set goals that are very difficult to achieve because they do not totally depend on us and we cannot control them.

For example, setting a postgraduate goal as a goal, because in some universities it is not enough to enroll, but rather there is a selection process, a certain number of vacancies, professionals with very good academic training can apply, then being selected will not be enough just to our performance, which is the only thing that depends on us.

I would like to introduce you to some goal ideas for 2023.

To start 2023 on the right foot, I recommend that you select two or three goals to improve your quality of life. You can write them down on your mobile, in your wallet or on your computer, places where you can quickly see them, and thus remember them.

I show you how you can start:

1. Make a list of two or three goals to improve your quality of life that you want to achieve in 2023. Keep it short and to the point.

2. Think about what you need to do to get them. Do you want to create a skin care routine? Would you like to lose a few kilos? Do you want to have a more balanced diet and thus feel more energy in your day to day life? Maybe train before going to work like you did a thousand years ago? Write down the steps.

3. Establish some indicators that show you how much you are evolving to reach your goal. For example: book an appointment for a facial in January and renew it monthly, frequent restaurants only on weekends and try to prepare healthier foods at home, at least three times a week wake up earlier to train, etc.

4. Put on a monthly memory aid to keep an eye on your indicators. Something quick, but it's important so you know how far you're going, without sabotaging your plans.

Done, you have already established your goals to have a better quality of life. It's time to take a deep breath, relax and prepare for 2023 to be the best of your life. Give time to time!

HOW WE AVOID PROCRASTINATION

It is just as important to give time to time as it is to avoid procrastination. But, even knowing that postponing what we long for so much can bring us great frustration, how can we not give up on the journey towards what we really want and can have?

To prevent your plans from being frustrated, my suggestion is “don't leave for tomorrow what you can do today”. The goals are for 2023, ok, but you can start today. Set aside time to meet your small goals on a day-to-day basis.

Do you want to show off more beautiful skin? Give yourself at least 15 minutes a day. “I don't have time” is the procrastinator's main apology, did you know that? Also, it is a form of self-sabotage. Pay attention not to get carried away. And let's go with all our desire, we are one step away from 2023!
